Health Care Power of Attorney
Should I have a durable power of attorney for health care if I am young and in good health?
A durable power of attorney for health care is a type of advance directive document that states your wishes for selecting a health care agent if you are ever mentally incapacitated. When you make this directive, you (the principal) name a trusted person (the agent) to oversee your medical care and make healthcare decisions for you if you are unable to do so. Your health care agent will work with doctors and other health care providers to make sure you get the kind of medical care you wish to receive. This document is important to have in place at any age in case of accident or illness.
